{"id":58,"date":"2026-10-12T17:40:11","date_gmt":"2026-10-12T17:40:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cityatlas.org\/methods\/?p=58"},"modified":"2026-10-12T17:41:15","modified_gmt":"2026-10-12T17:41:15","slug":"a-week-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cityatlas.org\/methods\/notes\/a-week-out\/","title":{"rendered":"A week out"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A week from today I will be sitting down to the first morning of work in Milwaukee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So far I have configured this, half configured an Omeka S installation (darned if I can get the Universal Viewer to show stuff), and organized a pre-Reform and Opening set of Russian topographic maps and 2025-26 satellite mosaics of my cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What I have not accomplished is getting Esri&#8217;s segmentation and classification tools to give me rasters that I can use for fast analysis of land use categories. For the Planet images, it&#8217;s possible that I am not starting with the best band combination. For the Russian topos, the cities that span multiple topos are problematic because the quality of the original scans (or perhaps even the paper sources) are too heterogeneous. So I can&#8217;t classify all 500 georeferenced topos at the same time (too big) and I can&#8217;t do clumps of cities (too varied).
